Hardware Specifications
CPU
- Nintendo custom CPU labelled '5A22', produced by Ricoh; based around a 16-bit WDC 65C816 core.
- The possible clock speeds were 1.79, 2.68 and 3.58 MHz. But for most purposes the bus runs at 2.68 MHz and drops to 1.79 MHz when accessing certain PPU registers.
RAM
- The SNES's 5A22 CPU has direct access to 128 kB of Work RAM.
Sound
- Sound Controller Chip: 8-bit Sony SPC700 CPU for controlling the DSP; running at 1.024 MHz.
- Sound RAM: 64 kB shared between SPC700 and S-SMP.
- Main Sound Chip : Sony S-SMP
Video
- Picture Processor Unit (PPU): 15-bit
- Video RAM: 128 kB
- 64 kB of VRAM for sprite and layers effect like transparency
