Clone Modchips

Clone Modchips are Modchip products where the modchip developer did not develop either the hardware or firmware themselves and either claims that they did or otherwise does not not properly credit the true creator. In most cases clones exist to turn a profit by ripping off someone else's work.

Clone chip manufacturers are able to make a similar product at a reduced price since they do not have to cover Research and Development costs that the original creator bares. Some feel that the loss of profit due to clone sales hinders further advancement and research into console modifications and hacking. It is this reason why many in the modding community do not support the use of clone chips.
